Seth's empire —
Sculpture/print. 85cm x 120cm canvas, mixed media. 2006
My uncle Seth went from penniless immigrant to wealthy factory owner, in America, of course. The dream. This piece is supposed to be representative of the empire he has established for his family in a foreign country, through toil and hard work.
I gathered materials from the outskirts of Seth's factory in Los Angeles, and started to make a city. A smaller model looked good so I set about making a huge cityscape. In the end the sculpture weighed around 300kg and measured more than 2m high. Through extremely high resolution (and very expensive) scans, and lots of digital manipulation, the final image that you see below was constructed with painstaking attention to detail.
